Think about the songs mentioned in The Pearl by John Steinbeck. There are five that are explicitly mentioned, but several others implied. What do these songs sound like to you? Think about what words these songs might have...and then make your own song using https://www.snapjam.co/
If you would like to do a variation of the songs listed below then please come see me (for example, a Song of Knowledge could be one, based on pages 25-26 where Kino talks about sending Coyotito to school). Regardless of your choice, understand that you are trying to create the song that Kino or Juana might hear in their heads as they are experiencing life. These are the songs explicitly mentioned: 1)The Song of the Family (and its variations) 2)The Song of Evil 3)The Song of the Undersea 4) The Song of the Pearl (That Might Be) 5) The Song of the Enemy (which appears to be a variation of the Song of Evil) You will receive points for the following criteria: 10 points for checking in on January 8th with your idea for the song 20 points for providing a correctly formatted works cited list--include The Pearl and any songs that you use 30 points for creating at least 8 lines of lyrics that reflect the song you chose 40 points for an accompanying paragraph that explains why you chose/created the melody that you did, i.e., how does it reflect what you perceive as the the “feeling” of the song you chose. Also explain your lyrics, even if they seem self-explanatory. |
