Dear Parents or Guardians,
My name is Jacob Millican and I would like to start by saying thank you for entrusting me with the education of your children. As a father of two daughters myself, I understand that our children represent the future of our community. I also understand that it is imperative that we work closely together to prepare them for this role.
In working towards this goal, I am a firm believer in the primacy of teaching life lessons in my classroom. I love history and literature, remaining conversant in both disciplines, as well as keeping pace with current events that I can relate back to these subjects as part of my professional competency. However, I believe teamwork, problem solving, resourcefulness, critical thinking and effective communication are equally essential skills and I will work my hardest to teach these skills to our students.
This is my fifth year at ICOLPH, and I have the privilege of moving to 7th and 8th grade this year to teach Humanities. My academic background consists of a Bachelor of Arts degree in the self-designed discipline of World Citizenry (a mixture of history, Spanish, geography, economics, and political science), graduate course work in American history, and a Master in Teaching degree. My professional background consists of a series of leadership roles in the US Army, transportation sector, and youth sports. My desire is to use this breadth of experience to help enrich our classroom.
As a steward of your children’s education, I will constantly seek to improve my instruction and gather input from both my students, and you, their parents. I am available via email, phone, and scheduled meetings/conferences to support your children's academic needs and am eager to work together to prepare them to be responsible leaders of their generation.
Sincerely yours,
Jacob Millican
